The Fiqh Council of North America unconditionally condemns the brutal and unjustifiable killing of unarmed and innocent people at the Inland Regional Center in the city of San Bernardino. The horrendous massacre can never be justified by any stretch of religious imagination or Islamic ideology. This is nothing short of savagery and cruel barbarism regardless of the motivation. Earlier at a press conference, the Chairman of the Fiqh Council, Dr. Muzammil Siddiqi, said that “we condemn the horrible violence in San Bernardino and stand in solidarity with the victims and the survivors.” We mourn the loss of innocent lives and pray for speedy recovery of the injured. We reiterate that those who commit acts of violence, cruelty and terror in the name of Islam are not only destroying innocent lives but are also betraying the very faith they claim to protect. No injustice done to Muslims can ever justify the massacre of innocent people, and no act of terror will ever serve the cause of Islam. We repudiate and dissociate ourselves from any group or individual who commits such brutal and un-Islamic acts. We refuse to allow our faith to be held hostage by the criminal actions of a small minority acting outside the teachings of both the Quran and the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. We remind all Muslims that loyalty to one’s homeland and compassion to one’s neighbors is an integral part of the Islamic faith.
