Our Condolences to the Ummah on the Demise of Dr. Al-Qaradawi

إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون

On behalf of the Fiqh Council of North America we express our sincere condolences to the Ummah on the death of our dear Shaikh Dr. Yusuf al-Qaradawi (1926-2022). Eternity belongs to Allah alone. We all have to return to Him, according to the time determined by Him. We pray to Allah to bless Dr. Al-Qaradawi and give him the honored place in Jannah al-Firdaus in the company of the Prophets, the Righteous and Martyrs.

Dr. Al-Qaradawi was an Imam, Faqih, Khatib, scholar, teacher, a great orator, and a prolific writer. His books are more than 120 and another 50 volumes of his articles, speeches and fatawa. His books have influenced the lives of millions of Muslims around the world. He always taught moderation (wasatiyah) in thought and action. He was criticized by some for some of his fatwas and opinions and there is no human being, other than the Prophets and Messengers of Allah, who are perfect and infallible. He was, however, recognized and respected for his scholarship by many Muslim scholars and almost all Islamic schools of thoughts.

He was the founder of the International Union of Muslim Scholars in 2004 and remained its Chair for fourteen years, until resigned due to his age and fragile health in 2018. He resided in Doha, Qatar for many years of his life. He was the Mufti of Qatar and the Head of the Department of Sirah and Sunnah at the University of Qatar until he passed away. He visited the Muslims of United States many times and benefited us by his talks and sermons.

We thank Allah for his life and his great contributions and pray for him immensely. May Allah bless him and his family and give patience to all those who loved him. Ameen.
